The Attack of Missing You
A trigger.
A sudden tug.
A pull, from far, far away,
And tears envelop the world.
"I'm alright."
I say.
But the slow,
Bleeding,
Enraged heart
Refuses to believe the words.
Your life had flown before my eyes
As quickly as it had left yours,
In a flash of fire.
"I will never see you again,"
I tell my son quickly,
Quietly. Hoping
That somehow he can hear me through the fog.
Words a mother never hopes to say.
"Remembering you though, that's what counts."
I flip through the pages of your history with my mind.
I read. Five years.
I see the end.
I relive the pain.
I remember thinking: "Nothing can compare."
